Sedation Dentistry

Our team at McKibben Dental in Reynoldsburg is committed to helping our patients to feel comfortable and relaxed as much as possible.  We understand that many patients struggle with a form of dental anxiety at their appointment. That’s why we are proud to be able to offer options to help relieve any dental anxiety or discomfort when possible, such as sedation options.

When it comes to our sedation dental options, there are a few different levels and types available. Dr. McKibben and Dr. Ehrbar will discuss some of your options with you at your next appointment to figure out the best choice for your unique needs.

Common Types of Sedation

  1. Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide, otherwise commonly known as “laughing gas,” is one of the most common types of sedation offered at our practice. It is a mild gas that the patient will inhale through a comfortable nose mask. This gas will help put you at ease and will provide a relaxing, calming effect during your appointment. One of the main benefits of nitrous oxide is that this wears off very quickly, allowing you to return to your everyday activities without any grogginess.
  2. IV: If a patient is in need of a more powerful sedation method, dr_name} may offer intravenous (IV) sedation. This method helps those who experience a high level of dental anxiety–as always, a member of our team will closely monitor you throughout the procedure to ensure that you are staying healthy and safe!
  3. General Anesthesia: Sometimes, a patient may deal with a very strong dental phobia and require a deep level of sedation to get through the procedure–this is when general anesthesia may be used. The patient is completely unconscious during this type of sedation and requires the use of an anesthesiologist in a surgical setting.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

At McKibben Dental, your safety is always our top priority. Sedation and other forms of anesthesia are considered safe for use and have been used for several years in the dental field.
